The company was founded on July 8, 1716, and was appointed by the Chief Superintendent and General Administrator of the Posts Offices by Philip V, Juan Tomas de Goyeneche t serve the Spanish country. It has undergone many changes such as the rationalization charges after P.O. boxes and newspaper services were established.

It comprises of 2,395 multiservice offices while 6,392 are dedicated to rural services. The customers receive a locator mail to allow them to track the delivery. They can also send a follow-up email to ensure that the item arrives at the right location.
With the advancement of the technology, Correos de España uses an online system to provide other major services such as mobile app and convenient mode of payments. In line with this, it also offers financial services for instant sending and receiving of money. In 2003, it opened its Virtual Post Office to make its service more accessible to the people.
