China Post is engaged in the delivery of parcels and postal items in China and beyond. This postal operator carries out a collosal volume of shipments of goods from Aliexpress and other similar trading platforms, which have become insanely popular over the past few years.
When registering a postal item at the China Post, all packages are assigned a unique tracking number corresponding to the S10 standard of the Universal Postal Union (consisting of 13 symbols).

China Post Registered Airmail is an economical and typically slow shipping service from China Post. Normally it takes about 2-4 weeks to arrive to destination country from China. Registered Airmail tracking number is a 13-digit tracking code starting with letter "R" and ending with "CN"

Unregistered China Post packages typically have 13 alphanumeric characters (UG533573760CN) starting with letter U. Unregistered packages are trackable only during their transit through China territory. After package is exported to your destination, it can't be tracked, because it's an economy delivery and package is not being registered at transit points. The only exception is KazPost, postal service of Kazakhstan, which supports tracking of unregistered mail items coming into Kazakhstan.
International services for China Post include Small Parcel, Large Package and EMS. The Small parcel and large package of China Post can be tracked if registered. According to transportation methods, it can be divided into three categories: Air Parcel, Surface Air Lift (SAL) Parcel, and Surface Parcel. China post air mail/parcel is the mostly used one which is cheap and convenient. EMS is faster than China Post Mail but more expensive.
China Post International Small Parcel service is for the delivery of lightweight items below two kilograms from China to other countries and regions. It’s the most economic delivery way among all the logistics transportation forms such as EMS, DHL, UPS, Fedex, TNT and can be registered to track the shipment. As long as the packet (except prohibition items) is less than 2kg with the size less than 90 cm in length, width and depth combined and greatest dimension less than 60cm, it can be posted as small parcel. A small parcel is usually delivered through three transport means – Air, Surface Air Lifted (SAL) and Surface. Because the Surface delivery needs a long time (usually 40-70 days), more people use Air or SAL. The China post international registered air mail is now greatly used in e-commerce market such as eBay, Amazon, AliExpress and by individual customers. Items such as small parts, accessories, clothes, shoes and more articles for daily use are fit to use this way of delivery.
A Small Parcel is suitable for items weighing less than 4.4 lb (2 kg). The total of the length, width and height of its outer package must not exceed 35 in (90 cm), and neither the length, width or height must exceed 24 in (60 cm). A Small Parcel is very cheap, especially for international mail. It can reach almost everywhere in the world, as long as there is a post office. It is safe and can be tracked if registered. It takes 5 – 10 days to reach other Asian countries, 7 – 15 days to America and Europe, and 7 – 30 days to other countries. Air mail takes about 15 working days, SAL mail takes about 30 days, and surface mail takes one to two months. The tracking number of a small parcel usually begins with “R”, “P” or “V” and ends with “CN”.
China Post Ordinary Small Packet Plus (non-registered): Lower rates without shipment track & trace service and compensation for the loss.
Registered Mail: Higher rate than normal mail but can be tracked online. This is greatly used for electronic product, accessories, clothes, and arts and crafts sellers on eBay.
Classified by transportation means, the service is divided into three types - Air Parcel, Surface Air Lift (SAL) and Surface Parcel.

The delivery time is usually decided by the process time of the post offices and customs clearance condition. The following time is just for your reference.

For registered parcel, once the loss is confirmed, you can ask for compensation to China Post. The China Post will evaluate the value of the goods and give you compensation. Usually you can get two or three times of the shipping charge. The registration fee can’t be returned.
For normal mail, you can’t get any compensation.
The International large package service is offered by China Post for the delivery of the items over 2kg and less than 20kg, 30kg or 40kg. It fits for those packages with large sizes but are not urgent for shipment so much. Compared with EMS and other express means, the large package service is much cheaper. It can be tracked and traced with shipment status if it's registered.
Like the China Post Small Parcel Service which is for the delivery of items below 2kg, the large package has normal mail and registered mail classifications. The former one is cheaper but can’t be tracked with shipment status. The registered one is a little more expensive but with tracking service. Also, classified by transportation methods, it can be divided into three types which are Air Parcel, Surface Air Lift (SAL) and Surface Parcel. The Air Parcel is transported by air, SAL by sea, land or air, and Surface Parcel by railway, automobile, or ship. The first two ways need 5-30 shipping time and the last one needs a longer time which is over one month.

The tracking number (Shipment ID) of China Express is composed of 13 numbers. It begins with “CT” and ends with “CN”. Between them are 9 digits. E.g. CT123456789CN
Sometimes, the tracking information does not update in time. Another possibility is that your parcel has already left China, but the following status can not be traced as the destination country does not support China Post Tracking.
It depends on what kind of China Post service you have chosen. Usually it takes 7 – 20 working days for AIR and SAL mails, and 40 – 70 days for a surface mail. Should there be any delay, it would be as long as 180 days. You can check the status through our tracking tool. If it is an urgent parcel, you are advised to pay more for an Air mail.
These are the IATA codes for airports. PVG refers to Shanghai Pudong Airport. PEK refers to Beijing Capital International Airport. FOC is the ITIT code for Fuzhou Changle International Airport. CAN is the airport code for Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
China Post offers online tracking service for registered parcels, but sometimes the English information is not very clear.
“Collection” means the post office received the parcel; “Opening” refers to the step of customs check; “Departure from outward office of exchange” indicates the parcel was ready for shipment to destination country.
For no tracking records of your tracking number, it may be caused because you typed the numbers wrongly. You should make sure that you have typed the correct number. Also, the shipment information needs some time to be shown up in the system after you send the parcel. You are suggested to wait for one or two days to check. If you still can't see the records, please contact the official China post customer service.
No more update doesn’t mean lost. There are many reasons for this:
ParcelsApp is a tracking website getting tracking data from different couriers and providing the tracking information to you for free. We are not logistics companies thus could do nothing for the delivery process. Only when the courier updates their data, could we update it accordingly. If you find your parcel stuck at somewhere over ten days, you’d better contact the local courier to check it for you.
People sometimes will see tracking status as “Safety Check Rejected” or “Customs rejected” or “Rejected”. This is usually caused by following two reasons:
The forbidden item in the parcel such has cell phone,ipad,speaker etc(Check China Post forbidden item list here). If your parcel has item in the forbidden list, you can not get the goods anymore. You must open dispute to seller and claim refund. Occasionally parcel might also be rejected by machine mistake. This often happens to cell phone cases, toys etc which looks like some forbidden item.
If the rejection has happened by mistake. It could be resubmitted to safety check point again after a period of time. The rejection-resubmit procedure might repeat many times. So if the parcel is rejected by mistake, the parcel has good chance to arrive in future, but it will still be seriously delayed.
If you believe your parcel contains nothing from China Post forbidden item list, you can wait 2 to 5 more weeks (but never pass ebay/aliexpress/amazon buyer protection due date). If your buyer protection is expiring and your parcel has not arrived, you should open dispute for lost parcel ASAP.
If tracking status showing ‘delivery failed’, it means the carrier has tried to deliver it to the recipient but couldn’t do it successfully because of the wrong address or the recipient couldn’t be connected through phone. When this happens, most of the carrier would keep the package at the post office for about two weeks. You need to contact the carrier as soon as possible to ask for redelivery. Or, it will be returned back to the sender after two weeks.
Collection means that your parcel has been received by the post office.
Dispatching refers to the parcel leaves from the previous office for the China post export port in another city.
Opening means that the parcel has arrived at the local processing center and is being processed. Or the large package which includes your parcel and others is opened by the China customs to check and shipped out. (Your parcel is not opened.)
Departure from outward office of exchange means that your parcel is ready for shipment to the destination country.
Arrival at inward office exchange means your parcel has arrived at the destination country.
In general, if the package showing 'successfully delivered', it means the recipient has got it. If you didn’t get it, better check P.O box or ask your friends or neighbors. One of them may receive it for you. Or, contact the courier who delivered your package to ask where it was delivered and who got it.
In general, once the package is sent, the recipient’s address couldn’t be changed. You’d better track its status and once finding it arrives in the destination country, contact the local carrier to change the address.
You can not know the exact arrival time of China Post International Parcel. The reasons of such unpredictable-arrival problem are is China Post international parcels actually go through a network called Global Postal Union.
The members of this union are postal companies of different countries and most of the countries in the world belong to this union.
So parcels from China will go through many of the union member countries before arriving destination. The destination country post company is responsible for the delivery.
The key point is, once the parcel was given to customs or airline and it is on the way to next union member’s system, China Post will no longer control the parcel and not even know the exact status and location of the parcel until next union member country scans your parcel.
After China Post lost control of the parcel, in tracking result, the parcel status will seems to be freezed or stuck with status such as “Sent to airline”, “Export Security Scan”, “Export Customs Scan”, “Handed over to airline” for quite a long time (2 to 4 weeks in regular season, and 4 to 8 weeks in rush season). Once next postal union member scanned the package again and sends the data back to China Post through Global Postal Union computer system, China Post then will update the parcel status with the new information.
If destination country does not scan the parcel, or does not send the scan result to Universal Postal Union, the status will freeze forever. So if your parcel status froze for a couple of weeks, it does not necessarily mean your parcel has any problem.
In rush season, arrival time might be double or triple of regular season.
There are many factors affecting the delivery time, including national events and festivals, departure port traffic situation, etc.
